The symphony of birds outside my window at 6am
Tiger Airways and the elevator they made me sleep in

Wow....what a ride. I'm truly going to miss this place. I've had the time of my life out here, met some awesome people, and learned a hell of a lot. I am now in the process of moving back to Redwood City, CA to work full time as a concept artist for Crystal Dynamics. I am absolutely stoked about this position and can't wait to get back to the Golden State!

Mad Maxine: Character Design 101.

This project was intended to take me through the process of designing a character from start to finish. I had to shake some REALLY bad habits with this one and it took what seemed like forever to complete. Ultimately, I had a blast working on this character and will value it as a stepping stone in my career as an artist and my uncontrollable desire to take over the world muahaha!!!! Merry Christmas!

Busy...Busy...Busy!

In recent news...well somewhat recent. I've managed to land a job at Krome Studios! Check it out...http://www.kromestudios.com/. For those of you who don't already know...the company is located in Australia! I've spent the last couple of months preparing for the trip(hence the reason why I have'nt posted in a while) and I'm set to leave Sept. 2nd. I will be arriving in Melbourne on the 4th. My official start date at Krome is the 14th.

This is quite possibly the biggest endeavor I have ever taken on and thank god my fiance has decided to come with me. Its a big move and a tad bit risky, but as I've been told...with big risk comes big reward. I hope to meet and learn from all of the talented artists at Krome and soak up the Australian sun. Thanks to those of you who follow my blog...I will let you know how the move goes as soon as I'm able!

The Dominance War is finally over and I finished! This was a ton of fun and a great learning experience. I plan to keep doing competitions like this in the future as long as time will allow. Here's the link to my DW thread where you can see my work in progress. Enjoy!

Well...I'm fairly satisfied with this piece just because of the brush work I was able to accomplish. Other than that I think the colors got away from me a little and the composition could be better.

I absolutely love the way painter blends paint so I often start a color palette using an oil or an acrylic brush. Once I have a solid range of colors established I will start to bounce back an forth from Painter to Photoshop. Photoshop seems to give me the texture I want more often than not. All of these were done from photographic reference and took me about 45min to an hour each. Still need to get faster...ughhh...but I seem to have found a technique that is working for me. The bottom panel shows my work in progress. More to come!

Did these studies in Painter...mostly. I referenced some photos I took at the Nashville Zoo. My intent with these was get faster and find a solid reliable brush to use in painter. Which actually slowed me down...but I found one! Give or take each one took me about 25min.

The piece on top is a John Singer Sargent master copy I did some time ago. The bottom one was from a still life photograph I took. Both were done with acrylics and both came out of an illustration class that I highly benefited from. Thanks Thomas!

So I've spent the last six months or so art directing a short film titled "The Offering." No release date yet, but maybe sometime around the holidays. So far, it has been an awesome ride and I can't wait until it's release. Hopefully, it will put Cogswell on the map and bless the small group of people who are working on it. Here is some stuff that I did at the beginning of all this. Enjoy.

Portrait Sculpture

This is a self portrait of me as a lionfish. The fins are made of thin sheets of acrylic and the spines are fake plant leaves that have been modified. Don't know where I got the idea to use fake plants...I often look for random objects in the world whether it be in a store or in nature to use on my sculptures. It helps speed up the process(sometimes) and adds a unique characteristic to each piece.

Old Personal Project
This one took me about three to four weeks to finish due to all the detail stuff, but overall I'm happy with it. The candles are actually LED's and and use to light up, but I didn't anticipate the sulfur-based clay destroying the connections! I recently won an award for this piece so thank you to all who voted for me.
